Aged 25; (USN Coxswain on the USS Houston "The Galloping Ghost"); son of Ben Howard & Dora Emsey (Lewis) Bailey; brother of the Letha Jewell Bailey, Walter Thomas Bailey, John William Bailey & Mary Magdelene (Bailey) Sippel; (Ira was KIA in the Java Sea, during the Battle of Macassar Strait during WWII on the morning of Feb. 4, 1942; he was the 1st soldier/sailor from Randolph County to be killed during WWII. He was buried in Java, Indonesia, until the war ended, when his remains were returned home and buried in Oakland Cemetery)
